I've figured out that honesty, truly is, the best policy.
Remember when you were a kid and lied? You probably had to create some sort of story to prop up the lie. So you have the lie and a story surrounding the lie.
But what if someone you include in the story doesn't know about the lie? Either you have to tell them to play along or they will find out on their own.
And if you tell them, will they play along?
Let's say they play along. But then they tell someone else. And that person tells someone else and....
I'm exhausted just typing this. And that's exactly how your life will be - exhausting. You'll try to cover up everything. You might even succeed but only for a little while.
A revelation will not be too far away at that point. Someone will leak that it's a lie. You're dead in the water. Trust that you had built with everyone is out the door.
You can't lose trust. Time and trust are the only good currency in business right now. Don't flush your wealth down the drain.
Be honest. Be straightforward. Even when it hurts. Especially when it hurts. The hurt is short-term. The healing is long-term.
