Oh, Daughtry. How long before you become irrelevant in the Christian CHR format?
Please, let it be soon.
The band's existence once again raised the ongoing, never-ending CHR format discussion about how Christian record labels don't have the consistent music to service them. To the point that radio stations have to go outside the format to find stuff to play.
Oh. My. Word.
I know we all want to play great music but going outside the format doesn't help anyone. If anything, I'd be willing to bet it confuses your listeners as to what they expect from your station. They expect encouraging music that speaks to the hope found in Jesus Christ. Is it always going to be blatant? No. But that doesn't mean we have to turn our backs on the bands trying to SERVE this market and go find something else.
If it's a question of terrible music, how about you be straight up with a record label and tell them a band stinks? The label will get the idea and move on to something else.
Help your brethren. Don't hinder them. Support the format. Don't kill it by playing music outside the genre. Instead, focus on those bands that support both the mainstream and Christian formats.
