Billboard.biz recently reported about how Internet Service Providers (ISP) in the UK are about to be banned from providing access to "sites with a 'substantial proportion' of copyright-infringing content."
Please keep reading.
You can't be disinterested in this. Because you know what this means?
Radio can position itself as the next place to hand out content for free! How?
Well, first you have to believe that the U.S. isn't far from this move, thanks to our friends (or our enemies?) at the RIAA. Once such a bill comes to pass, record companies won't have a legitimate way to leak music. Yes, record companies leak music on purpose sometimes because it's a great way to grow buzz for a band.
What I'm saying is, you shouldn't wait until that point to start asking for free downloads to give listeners. Start asking labels now for free stuff.
Don't think your voice is loud enough? Call your radio friends and have them start asking, too. Trust me, if radio clamors loud enough, labels will listen. OK, so maybe clamoring against performance royalties hasn't worked but that doesn't mean you clamp up now.
Free music is the future. Radio, you have to take advantage.
