It makes me absolutely sick to see a certain newsletter. And newsletters in general drive me nuts.
Don't get me wrong. They can be extremely helpful, especially the ones that point you to discounts, great deals and the like.
But the ones I hate are the ones that regurgitate information, ones that give you news that you can get from any number of blogs, radio thinkers and news sources out there earlier in the week. Do we need to be spoon-fed every week or two?
Why reprint that stuff?
To save people time? Sure.
To be original or helpful? No.
My goodness, people. Are you willing to wait a week for news and information? Are you too busy to look for things on your own? If you answered "yes", then I submit that you're not continuing to learn. And THAT is a dangerous thought. We should be learning each and every day.
And please, don't start telling me that you don't have time. You make time for your priorities. And learning every day should be a priority. You don't want to tune in a week later to see what you've missed. How about setting an Outlook appointment every day to spend time looking or thinking about something new? Something that will transform the way you think for that one day.
Do yourself a favor; don't succumb to the man. Think for yourself. Regurgitation never created truly great radio minds. I challenge you to set aside time each day for learning or reading new things to make you a better leader/on-air personality/manager/PD/MD/promotions director/label rep.
See, you've already learned something by reading this. Now, go! Do more!
