I once got a note from someone that set me off: "How can you listen to secular music? How do bands like Coldplay and U2 glorify God?"
Anger. Just pure anger flooded my emotions.
I listened to Christian music throughout my childhood and only as I got into my college years did I begin to look outside the realm. Once I did, I found bands that I truly enjoy listening to that aren't Christian.
I can hear the giant gasps
If you think that Christian music is the end all and be all, ask your label friends to send you the Christian SoundScan chart and then the mainstream SoundScan chart and notice the numerical differences. It's out there, folks. The more time we spend ignoring it, the more we spend ignoring culture. And shouldn't we be in the culture? Affecting it from the inside out? It doesn't mean that we start having promiscuous sex so we can tell how we got saved from it, but it means that we should befriend those that have.
Get off your high horse. Accept that there is mainstream music out there. You don't have to buy it and I'm not going to force you to listen to it. But don't throw it back in my face. Try to understand where I'm coming from. And above all, look at my life as my example, not my choice of music.
