We Don't Need No Education. Yes, You Do!

Many times at conferences, conventions, etc., people are not asking questions about WHAT the future of radio is but WHO the future of radio is. What a great question!

Who is going to step up and be the voice that carries your morning show when your current one leaves? Who is going to be the next great overnight host that will turn into a #1 morning or afternoon host? Are they in your building already? They better be! And people better know them as interns.

That's right. Interns. They are your "numero uno" source for developing talent.

You mean, you don't have interns? Are you kidding? How is your station surviving? And how do you to expect your station to have a future without having that future in your building? Plus, it's free labor!

Spend some time thinking ahead and anticipate where your station is going to be in 5-10 years. Then head over to the local college and talk to someone in the communications department. Don't stop there. Maybe look at a public relations major or a music major. I bet there is a plethora of people who don't know they want a future in radio!

This might be one of the only times I say this: stop reading and start doing. Go find some help for today and talent for tomorrow!
