Now I'm not sure how you voted last night. If you voted for Kris, maybe you voted for him because he's straight. Or maybe you voted for him because he leads worship and anyone that leads worship and runs to do "American Idol" should get your vote, no matter the vocal talent. But maybe, just maybe, you voted for him because he was the best artist in the Final 2.
Whyever (yes, I just made that up and I can do that because I am the Bully Pulpit) you voted, it doesn't give him or you a pass to be all excited about his version of "God of This City" that someone ripped off a YouTube video. "American Idol" will probably turn him into something between David Cook and Chris Daughtry. David Daughtry, if you will, forging ahead into a mainstream career without even a second glimpse at the Christian market.
"What?! He wouldn't come to the Christian market?" No, probably not. Or at least not until a second album when a Christian label can work the single because he has Christian ties (cough, The Fray, cough).
Play artists that support our format and care about Christian music because that's what they feel called to. Who even knows what format he'll be serviced to besides Mainstream AC? And play artists that have great songs because that "No Boundaries" single is freaking awful. And after all how could you support a network that carries shows like "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons"? (Gasp!)
By all means, go buy Kris Allen's new single because you want to hear his voice and support him. But can I suggest you just keep him away from your radio station?
