Talking Points #1

I was reading through the talking points for the performance royalties' debate provided by the Christian Music Broadcasters (CMB). You can read them at www.cmbonline.org.
This one caught my eye: "At awards shows, artists constantly thank radio for playing their music and for what radio has done for them. The artists know that radio is the key to their success, not an industry that is unfairly taking advantage of them. No one makes it to the top of the charts without radio airplay."
Wait a second. Are awards now the definition of success to our artists? Would any artist say that he or she is in this for success, awards, chart-topping singles?
Certainly, there is truth to the argument that radio plays a role in recognition and in turn voting in award shows. But is this a fair talking point when it comes to Christian music artists?
