The Worst Break You’ll Ever Do…

Here’s the challenge of an air talent:

The worst break you’ll ever do could very possibly be the one heard by the most people, or the one most remembered, and serve as the example of your work.

Be a pro. Don’t just open the mic and think it’ll all somehow automatically turn out fine. Craft your ‘camera angles’, your editing, your vocal chops, so that you’re clearly the best choice for the listener’s time.

If you don’t make this effort, someone else eventually will. We’ve all heard of stations in this format that seem to continually struggle to stay ‘healthy’. There’s no reason for that to happen. If you can’t afford talent coaching, at least make time to actually listen to the station, (What a concept.) To paraphrase the great Yogi Berra, “You can hear a lot by listening.”
