How Much is Too Much?

When it comes to our faith-based Content, the question is always “How much is too much?” Let me try to answer this for you.

If you’re trying to grow your cume (which you should always be doing), it’s less than you might think. Here’s why:

The more overt or heavy-handed the Religion message is, the less likely you are to attract a new listener – a person who may be only taking his or her first tentative step toward Christ. Welcome that person in. Don’t make it too hard for him or her to like you, and to feel invited.

You are not being a good shepherd at all if you make it sound like you’re somehow closer to God than I am. That’s just pompous, and way too many stations are under-sampled and have challenges being funded because of it.

As a new listener, I just tuned in. You just played a 4-minute song about Jesus. It’s not like it’s a secret that the station is a Christian station.

DO show your faith, but don’t make it sound like there’s a sign saying “You have to be this tall in your faith to listen.”
