Don’t Be Like All the Other Podcasts!

A quick Google search for “Christian Podcasts'' shows a cool quarter billion search results. Thank the Heavens for sites compiling lists of the “Top 25 Christian Podcasts in 2022.” Yet when I click on that, I see mostly apologetics and bible stories and studies; only one mentioned mental health…Wow.
If you or your station is thinking of starting a podcast, I highly suggest taking a look at what is being OVER-done already, and encourage you not to pile on, as easy as it may seem.
Here are some topics that only the brave of heart would consider talking about (Are you brave?):
- Sex Addiction/Porn Addiction - Everybody knows of a pastor that has been fired for acting out inappropriately, or for covering up someone else’s sexual brokeness.
- Same-Sex Attraction - How do we speak to GenY and Z about the ever-increasing gender-bending in our culture without turning them off to the amazing power of Jesus?
- Drug Addiction/Alcoholism - Ya, it’s still a thing and will continue to be until the end.
- Healing/Miracles - We talk about them, have heard or seen them happening, yet there’s not much out there in the podcast world about this. Think about this: Do you think the followers of Jesus and the amazing crowds that came to hear Him or be near with Him were there because of what He taught at the temple, or because they heard or saw Him healing almost anybody that asked?
- The history of the Church - just kidding :-)
The point is that there is so much that IS NOT being talked about with a medium where literally anything can be talked about.
Stop playing it safe. Be brave. Be bold. Be Jesus with a mic.
If you are going to be in the Dallas area in August, I am hosting the ONLY Christian podcast panel at this year’s Podcast Movement. More info can be found here.
If you have a podcast and are interested in being a panelist for the panel, please email me directly at matt@soundstack.com.
