The ”Podcast Generation” not only tolerates longer conversations – they demand it.
Think about the last podcast you listened to. Even if it was on the shorter end, it likely spanned 15-20 minutes of uninterrupted conversation.
“Gen P” is perfectly comfortable with this. They follow the train of thought while getting ready for the day or cooking dinner or working out.
(Personally, I can’t do the podcast-and-workout combo.
Nothing like trying to do a PR lift while learning about World War II.)What I’m *not* saying is that your radio show is now a podcast.
What I *am* saying is that “Gen P” wants to hear what you have to say.Assuming, of course, your talent have something worth listening to.
This is a renewed focus for us at The River. Our morning show just went through a personnel update and rebrand focused on having more in-depth conversations. When I asked Josh Hooper (PD/Morning Host) about the changes, he was explicit in his reasoning: the next generation demands it.
Hiring – and maintaining - rockstar talent capable of authentic conversation will be paramount to any success with Generation P.
It’s like driving on the highway. You don’t take the first exit just because it’s there. You also don’t ignore it just for the sake of getting further down the road. It all depends on where you’re going.
