Using email marketing correctly is like inviting someone over for dinner. They don’t see the laundry you shoved in a closet. They don’t know you burned the dinner the first time around.
But they do get to see the real you. They get to sit at your table, meet your puppy, and enjoy your company.
Email marketing invites someone to join you at the table. For just a moment, to feel like they’re part of the family.
When you write an email, there are a few things you can do to make sure it sounds like a real human instead of a robot. Here they are.
- Read it out loud
- Send it to a friend with no context and ask for their real thoughts
- Write like it’s $100 per word
- Write with no editing for your first draft. Say everything you want to say. You can always edit to make something more mechanical, but it’s really tough to add emotion in later.
- When you can, tell a story to illustrate your point. Just like you would if you were talking over the dinner table.
Don’t waste the opportunity to invite someone over for dinner.
