There’s a story of a pottery teacher who separated his students into two categories. One category would be judged by quality. The other would be judged by quantity.
To the first group of students, judged by quality, he told them to make the best pottery they could make. They would be graded on excellence.
To the second group of students, judged by quantity, he told them to forget about quality and just make as many pieces of pottery as they could. They would be graded on the number of pieces produced.
Who won?
Surprisingly, it was the group that was being judged on quantity. They made so many versions, tried different variations, and risked everything just to get to a higher number - all of which led to - surprise, higher quality!
If you do something over and over again, you get better at it.
In marketing, we often wait until we have the right plan in place. Will the content work FOR SURE? Are we 100% confident this is the way to go? Do we know people will resonate? Have we done enough research?
You won’t know until you hit publish. Hit publish and learn from your audience. Then take their feedback and give them more of what they love.
Experiment. Try new things. Throw spaghetti on the wall and see what sticks.
Focus on quantity. Chances are, you’ll end up focusing on quantity and end up with quality too.
