There are many wonderful, friendly, entertaining air talents in Christian radio, but I'm sure you'd agree that those are certainly NOT the majority. And even if a station DOES have an entertaining morning show, for instance, how often do you hear something that makes you smile, or laugh out loud, in other dayparts?
While you work on being relevant, and promoting the ministry facets and community service elements of the station, don't forget to have some FUN, too.
This format is strangely lacking it sometimes. We hear a lot of "Parental" perspective, and a lot of "God" perspective, but Personality should be in EVERY show. EVERY SHOW.
Ideally, there should be a balance between being Informative and being Entertaining. I coach every English-speaking format, and over the years, it's been very odd to me that Contemporary Christian Music radio - a format that should have the MOST joy - is often completely joyless.
Don't let that be you. Do something goofy once in a while. Laugh. (But only when you can't help it. No phony or gratuitous laughs. Ick.)
The bottom line is that if your station isn't fun to listen to, not very many people will.
If you need some good examples, try The Wally Show on WAY-FM, Steve & Amy on Spirit 105-9 in Austin, or Katie & Dave on KXOJ in Tulsa.
