The Chase Is On!

Captain & Tenille. Justin Bieber. Richard Sherman.
Kanye West. Trace Adkins. Dennis Rodman. Madonna.
And the list goes on, and on, and on.

High profile folks, struggling to get through life, stumbling for all the world to see.
And the world is gleefully entertained.

Oh sure, sometimes we show great concern as we gossip.
"We really need to remember Lil' Shaggy Bro in prayer.....did you see what that numbskull did this time?"

But our real focus is this.....99% of the time..... "I'm sure glad I'm not as big a disaster as THAT guy!"

You see, we are ALL struggling to figure this thing out.
We should be chasing after God (a man after God's own heart), trying to be more like Him.
But we're NEVER going to achieve THAT goal.
We are ALWAYS gonna be CHASING.
Or at least we SHOULD be.

And if we are always chasing, but never achieving....
Then it's easy for us to start COMPARING our progress to legions of others who are struggling.
And the most likely, easiest choice are the poor high-profile folks who are rich in paparazzi and drama.

"Did you see what Miss Twerky Butt wore to the grocery store? Did they use cellophane to make those pants?"
"And were you watching when the Tattooed Marvel melted down this time? Oh boy, what a hot mess."
"That's nothing....did you see where they pulled over Heartthrob Thugman for DUI? He had some girl named Molly with him!"
"What a punk!"

When others stub their toe, it makes us feel better. At least we haven't stumbled that badly. This week.
But what if the cameras were following US around 24-7 ?
What if our every word, every reaction, every misstep......all of our mistakes.....
Were broadcast on social media and talked about nationwide.
Would we really be THAT much better?

We might not be guilty of doing the same things.
But we are still (or should be) CHASING after God's heart.
We are STILL falling short every day.
And God doesn't see sin in degrees.
He doesn't say, "well, at least He's not as bad as THAT guy."
We're either forgiven by his Son, or we're not.
And we're either falling short of perfection, or we're not.

And ALL of us are (falling short).

So the next time you see a meltdown of epic proportion occurring in the life of a celeb,
Stop and take an inventory of your own chase effort today.
Are you still CHASING?
And if you are, how's that going?

Pray for Justin. And Dennis. And Trace, Kanye and the Material Girl, too.
Because if it weren't for the grace of God.....you and I would be right there with them.
Some of us are. We're just not as quick to call attention to THAT.
