Goodratings Strategic ServiceMy friend Donna shared this story with me.....
"So we were in Hawaii at a luau and the announcer guy starts talking and we
could only understand about 10% of what he was saying. I could tell from the tone of his voice that he was just reciting, like he'd done it a million times before. The second thing I noticed was that when he had an audience member up on the stage with him, he'd ask their name and where they were from but he didn't even look at them or connect with them in any way, and the impression I got was that he didn't even care, nor was he listening. All I could think about was that even though the announcer had done this probably hundreds of times before, it was our first time there. We wanted to hear and understand every word he was saying and I wanted him to present it in an exciting way. How much more that would've enhanced our experience. When he had an audience member up there, it may have been routine to him, but it was a huge deal to the person who was up there and he failed to recognize that and capitalize on it.
I remember when I went to see the live production of Les Miserables and I saw in the program that the guy playing Jean Val jean had done so over 3,000 times. I said to my husband, "What can this guy really bring to the part? It's probably so routine for him." But he was amazing and gave his all, even though he'd done it thousands of times before."
Today someone is listening to your radio station for the very first time.
New York Yankee legend Joe DiMaggio was right. "There is always some kid who may be seeing me for the first time. I owe him my best."
