The Whirling Dervish

Ever have one of those days?
Running in place wearing concrete galoshes, while you juggle chain saws, wrestle alligators and balance the Eiffel Tower on your nose.....
All at the same time? That's what I call the "whirling dervish" effect.
A dervish, in case you're not familiar, is a noun...and is defined as "A person whose behavior resembles a rapid, spinning object, and include spastic fidgeting and incessant babbling. The actions of the whirling dervish are irritating and annoying, often exhausting other people in the immediate vicinity."
And, quite possibly, exhausting themselves as well.Sound like anyone you recognize?
Maybe someone in your organization?
Or, maybe it's you?Once you allow your supervisor to find out that you are an accomplished chain-saw-juggler, how do you recover from that?
To go back to simply using hatchets as your juggling apparatus would be such a letdown.
But you can't keep the chainsaw act going long term.
Something has to give.....hopefully not any of your appendages.
Most of the time, it's just a case of burnout.
Some time off, or maybe a pink slip.
Then it's back to the same old grind. Is there a way to combat this multi-faceted "I have to take care of it all right now" mentality?
And if there is, are we willing to consider it?
While you ponder, would you hand me that tuba, the aquarium, and the window air-conditioner over there?
I'm thinking about adding them to my act. -
