Remember the story we used to read as kids?
The one where the sky was falling?
Calamity was prevailing.
Imminent death was upon us.
The end of the civilized world was assured.
Or was it?Chicken Little was convinced that it was.
In fact, he ran around the barnyard, screaming at the top of his lungs.
Warning all who would listen that the end was most definitely near.
"Run, for your feather pluckin', hog snortin', oat scarfin', mule brayin' life!"But he was mistaken, wasn't he?
The sky was NOT falling.
The end was NOT near.
There was hope for tomorrow. We have industry "chicken littles", too.
They pop up all over the place, every so often, warning us of the ultimate demise of radio.
They point to indicators that are not necessarily as silly as a chunk of the sky hitting us in the noggin.
But also sometimes draw conclusions that could be categorized as misinformed or misguided.
And could cause us to spend time focusing on things that aren't factual.I absolutely want to be prepared for what's ahead.
And don't mind giving possibilities some discussion and thought.
But I don't want to spend my time digging a hole, just to spend equal time filling it with dirt so that no one stumbles and falls in the opening.
We don't need that kind of busy work, do we?I believe that radio is alive and well.
And that as long as you are connecting with your listener.....they will want to connect with you.
I'm grateful for my iPhone, my iPod, my wireless link and the Sandman.
But none of them will replace the local link with my friend on the radio.
Not even the sky, that may or may not be falling.
(now, where did I put that hard hat?) -
