Crutches

There's been a discussion on the PD Forum this past week about crutches. A friend forwarded it to me, and I found it very intriguing.

It's caused me to evaluate what "catch phrases" I might be using in everyday conversation. Phrases that are used so often that they almost become "meaningless."

One that I hear in conversation quite regularly as a sentence starter is, "me, personally."

This one always amuses me. Of course it's personal if it's you. I would have understood that much without the Caption Obvious clarification.

Another is "at the end of the day." Which is usually used to set up a quote that Confucious or St Francis might have said. But it happens at ALL TIMES of the day. So, why is it only "at the end of the day"? If it's right, wouldn't it be applicable at all times, in all situations, regardless of the height of the sun? I'm just sayin'.

And yep. That's another. We KNOW you're just sayin'. Cuz we heard you say it. And we probably dismissed it, because you said you were just sayin'. KNOWHUTIMEAN?

Here is a SHORT list of some of the "catch phrases" that have been mentioned. I've used them as kindling to ignite the fire of verbal creativity. Or in most cases, just to remind me to speak in normal everyday conversation - minus any unnecessarily profuse verbal waxing or interjectorily conjunctive modulations (what in the elephantus non capit murem did he just say?). Here goes:

• Absolutely
• Out there
• Hello everybody
• My name is
• You're listening to
• More music coming up
• Broadcasting live (thanks, Tommy Kramer, for this and MANY others)
• In case you didn't know
• Obviously
• On tap
• Amen

And the list goes on, and on, and on, and on...
