What The Customer Wants

Was reading a friend's Twitter feed this week. He had an interesting quote from Henry Ford: "If I had simply asked people what they wanted, they would have said 'faster horses'."
And that got me to thinking.
What if we spent our entire business career just trying to serve our customers' wants without considering their needs? Am I really serving my customer to the best of my ability?
Steve Jobs made a career of figuring out what his customer needed, long before they knew they wanted it. And set the bar high in the process.
Every innovator has done something similar - see a need, then inspire the want.
I'm wondering tonight, can we do we same thing with radio? Do we have enough confidence in our calling?
I don't have the answer. But I feel the need to search for it.
