Just like show prep can be gathered from social media, I found the inspiration for this week’s article on Instagram. I really strive to share thoughts and ideas that are nicely prepared, delivered well, and easy to implement. This week, however, is different.
I stumbled on a video from K.S. Rhoads and I was completely blown away. If you watch the video, you’ll see that Rhoads takes two very common things and creates one unique experience. He performs “You Are My Sunshine” in the style of Mumford & Sons. It’s fun, entertaining, and completely uncommon. His IG is filled with these kinds of mashup videos called, “Kids Favorite Jams By Their Dads Favorite Bands.”
HERE’S THE TAKEAWAY
Your radio show can take two very common things and create one unique experience. Maybe it’s a benchmark, social post, promotion, or contest. Make it unique, not only to you, but also to your city/area so that it creates a competitive difference, and so no one can duplicate it. Now, imagine if it goes viral.
Taking two very common things and creating one unique experience is just another tool for your on-air tool belt.
