Bosses who have a watchful eye on ROI may not like this article. Those who demand more for less just might drive to my house and punch me in the face. It’s a broad generalization, but I’m going to say it anyway:
“The quality of what we do in radio has suffered because everyone’s way too busy.” - Me
Okay leaders. Think about the creatives at your radio station. If you see symptoms of burnout and cynicism, the cause may be that everyone’s wearing five hats and their calendars are over-filled. The solution is literally… nothing.

So, if you’re a creative, schedule thirty minutes or an hour on your calendar a few times a week to “do nothing.” Make it a meeting you won’t cancel easily. If you manage creatives, please suggest this idea, and support it as much as you can.
Some of the best ideas I’ve ever been a part of were on a walk outside with a co-worker or in an unplanned hallway conversation. A certain magic happens in unplanned moments of life.
