You can hear this on multiple radio stations in cities across America.
“We play the most…”
“We’re your home for…”
"We’re the best…”When you talk about your radio station or show with the camera lens pointed at you, you make it all about …well, you. Everything changes once you realize that it’s really not about you or your radio station.
HERE’S THE 1 MARKETING TIP
Marketing is about capturing how you or your product benefit the listener’s life.
Let me explain. Consider marketing for this orange Bic razor. When it’s all about the Bic razor it may sound like, “The new Bic razor is so sharp because it has 3 blades and a super soft ergonomic handle.”
Now, market the razor as a benefit to the consumer: “The new Bic razor will leave your legs feeling like a satin sheet, not for just one day, but 3 days. That cuts your shaving time by two days every week helping you to not only save time, but water.”
HERE’S THE TAKEAWAY
When you promote yourself, it tends to be left-brained, factual, descriptive, and brand-centric. When you sell the benefits of your product to the listener’s life it’s often right-brained, imaginative, and consumer-focused. Apply this marketing concept to your own radio station or show. Listen to current promos and liners. Figure out if anything needs changed or adjusted to capture the benefits for your audience.
