4 Ways to Avoid Social Media Content Creator Burnout
October 11, 2022
-
Burnout in general is a real thing.
Add the mental strain of content creation and the stress can feel excessive.
The following are some of the signs The Mayo Clinic list to spot if you or someone you know is heading for burnout (or already there).
- Cynical or critical at work.
- Drags to work and has trouble concentrating and getting started.
- Irritable or impatient.
- Lacks the energy to be consistently productive.
- Using food, drugs, or alcohol excessively.
So, first, if you answered yes to any of these questions, consider talking to a doctor or a mental health provider.
Second – it’s time to put a few systems in place to sustain your creativity.
4 Ways to Avoid Social Media Content Creator Burnout ➢ Create A Cadence
One of the most damaging social media methods is winging it. Nothing good comes from winging it. Get organized and work off a cadence –which is a social media content and posting pattern.
And while a cadence keeps you organized – real-life, unplanned moments trump the cadence.
That means if you have something planned on a day something timely and topical happens – shelve what was planned – go with the in-the-moment content and come back to the planned content on another day.
This makes content creation easier (and you’ll find it helps you become even more creative.) This also ensures you don’t stray from your brand’s voice and values.
Don’t overlook workflow.
➢ Bundle The Content
There’s a term around content creation – they call it “batching content.” It means to use the days you’re feeling more creative – use the days you have more time to find/take photos, videos, and other content forms.
Depending on how creative you’re feeling – you could create a week’s worth of content in a small amount of time.
➢ Recycle Content
Great content should never be consumed just once. Take your higher-performing content and repurpose it in different ways.
A Reel can be shared as a “sneak peek” in “Stories.” An evergreen Reel can also be shared again – months after its initial share. Take long-form content and edit it down to 30 seconds. All kinds of ways to reuse content.
But plan it out. In the cadence – note when there are days you’re going to recycle content.
➢ Take Breaks
Whether it means taking a day off, a few days off – or simply taking breaks from your face in the screen each day – protect your mental health.
Just again: plan out your breaks.
Maybe you take the weekends away from content creation. Maybe you don’t look at social media on Sundays. Find what works for you and add that to your cadence.
Burnout is real and it’s critical we’re watching out for each other.
