Never Get Too Comfortable; Never Stop Learning: Go Syndicate Yourself

Benztown syndicated radio host and XHRM and XHTZ Director of Programming, Randy "R Dub!" Williams, has released his second industry book, Go Syndicate Yourself!
As R Dub’s! book description reads on Amazon, “The option of syndication makes sense both as a pathway toward expanding your broadcast career and as a backup to protect its very existence.”
But how we syndicate our shows can be a bit of a mystery.
So what’s remarkable is R Dub! giving it all away – from laying down the foundation of how the industry works to production, delivery, to the burning question, “How do I get a syndication deal?”
The book starts with a foreword by Chachi, President/Co-Founder, Benztown. It’s the perfect lead-in for such an inspirational book.
Here’s why:
The empathy Chachi shows for everyone who has lost their position in radio over the last few months. Only those of us, like Chachi, who have been there, lived it, and know the loss, can display this type of care.It was also fun to read advice from:
- Heads of Major Syndication Companies
“Yes, this is a business where your personality often is the product but try not to take personally decisions not to work with you.” – Steve Jones, President & COO Skyview Networks - Successful Syndicated Hosts
“You can’t get too full of yourself when times are good. Nobody successful does it alone.” - Terry James, Lex & Terry - Respected Heads of Radio Programming
"Be a SWAN: Smart, Works hard, Ambition, Nice. SWAN’s are the kind of people everyone wants to be surrounded by.” - Phil Becker, EVP Content Alpha Media
I never paid attention to the syndicated side of radio, and now I’m intrigued
*Also* - some of the fundamentals you’ll read about aren't just about syndication; they also apply to the social media space.
Think about it:
- Do not underestimate working closely with someone (Consultant/Coach, etc…) as you build out your brand.
- You may indeed be the expert on your show, but a good coach can help you perfect your brand in ways you may never considered.
- Everything you do represents your brand. How you act; how you interact with your friends. We may have “the right to say what we want,” but that doesn’t mean we always should.
- Remember who you’re talking to. Learn about your listeners, learn what drives them. Without them – there is no brand.
- Don’t give up. You’re going to fall on your face several times. Failure fosters imagination.
- Never get too comfortable and never stop learning
- The number one mistake people make is giving up too early
This is R Dub’s! second book on syndication and it's over 500 pages long with so many resources. Go Syndicate Yourself! includes an online component - a readers’ only portal with book updates, contract templates, example demos and so much more, for anyone looking to syndicate.
The portal is for folks who've purchased the book only and is updated constantly with tools and resources: www.gosyndicateyourself.com.
And finally, one of my favorites, Chris Cruise, created his own take on Go Syndicate Yourself!
Well done, R Dub!
