Be Flawsome - Flawed + Awesome - And Other Lessons Learned

Nine years ago this week, “Merge” here on All Access launched. It was 2011, and All Access President/Publisher, Joel Denver, was the one with the foresight to know a column on the emerging social media space would be something of value.
Here is a screen shot from the column launch in 2011:
And through your support, and all of those who read and share the pieces internally or socially, I have come to love writing on why social matters, and our behavior behind it that plays a pivotal role.
It’s also fun to showcase the inventive and memorable moments others create for all of us to learn from.
So I condensed the nearly 450 pieces written in the past nine years into something you can print and post everywhere.
Allow this list to serve as a reminder of the human element so prevalent in the social space, we want to always see beyond a tweet and see a person.
What We’ve Learned From Social Media So Far:
- Never miss an opportunity to be good to people.
- Keep creating 'Holy Crap' moments.
- Every person counts.
- Social media is the metric of emotional response.
- We define ourselves every day by how we behave in this space.
- Choose words wisely - even when we're right, when we're rude - we're wrong.
- Good work comes from skill; great work comes from empathy.
- Don't assume what you're doing has inherent value.
- The world is unmoved by how great your prize wheel is.
- With anything in life, nothing good comes from excessive use.
- Seek to resonate, not just to be seen.
- Brand loyalty still exists but how brands are chosen has changed.
- There’s a fine line between discovery and feeling sold.
- Be flawsome (flawed yet simultaneously awesome).
- We are a scroll nation (mostly because so much content is sh*tty)
- Place a greater focus on being useful.
People are walking around with the Internet in their pants; wanting to feel a part of something. Give them that.
Thank you for tweeting & posting the pieces that resonate with you.
The greatest gift you give writers is sharing their work. It means a lot.
