You're Only As Good As Your People #Conclave44
June 25, 2019
While this is a very small fraction of the takeaways and camaraderie experienced - everyone left inspired and motivated to make our industry even greater. It's empowering to watch the radio industry support Conclave. We get to see one another face-to-face; learn and grow as a business. Getting out and away from the office and/or control room to do a refine and reset for our stations (and for us personally) is important

"Thank you for the inspiration and education" is how many summed up Conclave 44; radio's storied Learning Conference that played out in Minneapolis last week.
It's not easy to capture the amazing vibe of what it was like to be present this year at Conclave - Conclave is a smaller, more intimate programmers and talent event.
And because of that small, intimate vibe - everyone enjoys the exceptional accessibility to colleagues and executives.
The takeaways were plenty.
(l to r; Valerie Geller, Int'l Broadcast Consultant; Tim Clarke, VP Audio & Content Cox Media Group; Tony Coles, EVP/Programming iHeart Media; Buzz Knight, EVP Strategy & Innovation Beasley Media Group & Shelly Easton, VP/Programming Entercom/Philadelphia)"Be curious. Surround yourself with those who embrace disruption." - Buzz Knight
"We need to get ready for the third great era of radio." - Lew Dickey
"Empower yourself through change." - Shelly Easton
"Stay humble. Great leaders help you avoid the mistakes they already made." - Colby Colb
"Great coaches find what motivates talent." - Patti Marshall
"Keep talent focused on what they can control." - Angela Perelli
"Consistency is key in the podcast space. Part of radio's success is the clockwork - knowing a favorite personality will be there at an exact time. Same with podcasts. Be consistent (day and time) with your releases." - Falen KDWB/Minneapolis
"This is a great industry to work in, if you don't treat it like a "9 to 5" job." - Paul Jacobs
"Do what the restaurant business calls 'table touching.' Touch base with your team, pop into the studio, check in on your people." - Michael Saunders
"Not responding to the audience online is like not picking up when they call. Audience will care about the show when they care about you." - Tony Coles
"Given the fragile nature of listener measurement, we need to treasure every one-to-one interaction. That one person could be the difference between victory or failure." - Buzz Knight
"Why do all radio stations have Scooby-Doo vans?" - Anonymous
There was a lot of laughter and learning.
You can always count on a lot of laughter at @Conclave! This was fun, when Steve Reynolds almost* got a Conclave first-timer to take off his tie during "Coaching Talent" session. ☺️ #Conclave44 pic.twitter.com/gLOjJwzT3w

"I'd like to change the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' title to 'Half-Time Achievement Award,' I'm not dead yet. I still have a lot to do!" - Paul Jacobs
(l to r: Conclave Chair/VP, Social Media Modern Luxury, Lori Lewis; Paul Jacobs, EVP/Programming iHeartMedia, Tony Coles)Speaking of the Rockwell Award, The Conclave board presented All Access Music Group President, Joel Denver with a brand-new Rockwell Award to replace Joel's original 2003 Rockwell that was lost in the fire that destroyed Joel's Malibu home last year.
