This Is A Time of Impact And Opportunities
June 19, 2018

Collaborative, positive and informative are among the sentiments used by attendees to describe The Conclave; radio's storied Learning Conference that plays out in Minneapolis each year.
It's not easy to capture the spirit of what it's like being present at Conclave - so every year we do our best to pull you into an event filled with great names, voices and thoughts through social.
And in anticipation of #Conclave43 one month away (July 18th - 20th, 2018), I thought it would be fun to reflect on some of the tweets (sound-bites) that resonated last year; giving you an idea of how inspiring the outcome is of this very cool event.
- Pay Your Dues
- Own Your Passion
- Don't Be An A**hole
- You Must Earn Your Way Into Someone's Life
- Creativity Is A Muscle - You Have To Constantly Work It
(L to R: Eric Ferguson, WTMX/Chicago; Tom Barnard, KQRS/Minneapolis; Broadway Bill Lee, WCBS-FM/New York and Marc Chase, EVPP iHeart Media)- Create Goals Around Your Weaknesses
- Take The Job They Have, Build The Job You Want
- Never Compromise Integrity For The Sake Of A Sale
- Have a Joy List - Write Down What Makes You Happy
- It's Important To Look For The Next Great Talent But Don't Forget The People Outside Our Doors
(Mary Ellen Kachinske, WTMX/Chicago, serving as a mentor)- Listeners Are Fueled By Personalities
- But Don't Over-Estimate Audience Attention; Get To The Point
- Radio Can Activate Communities Better Than Anyone
- If You Keep Working, Every Single One Of You In This Room Will Succeed
- Big Egos Are Bothersome
(Reggie Rouse, Entercom SVP/Urban Programming, serving as a mentor.)To learn more about Conclave, All Access' N/T/S & Podcasting Editor Perry Simon did a great job covering Day One of Conclave last year.
Jacobs Media's Fred Jacobs wrote an excellent piece from the Rockwell Award presentation honoring John Gehron.
And Media consultant, Holland Cooke, also did a fine job capturing awesome one-liners on his blog.
While this is a very small fraction of the takeaways and camaraderie experienced; it's here to remind all of us how important it us for our industry to hold and support this event.
We get to talk with each other, learn and grow as a business.
As Hubbard Media SVP/Programming, Greg Strassell, said:
"You get out of radio what you put into it."
Invest in yourself. You are worth it.
I hope to see you next month at #Conclave43!
