Facebook Makes It Easier To Hit The Snooze Button On Friends And Brands
September 19, 2017
-
The time has come where we will soon get to put our excessively chatty friends or Pages we've "liked" on snooze.
Look at what Dre Media stumbled on:
After seeing that, I reached out to Facebook press for confirmation and a Facebook rep replied:
"We're testing new ways to give people control over their News Feeds so they can stay connected with the stories they find most relevant."
As it's rolled out, you will find the Facebook Snooze button enables us to hush friends or Pages for one month, one week or one day.
What's nice is it may deter folks from unfollowing or "unliking" us for good; just giving them a little break from us.
But really if someone needs a break from us in News Feed, perhaps it's time for a refine and reset.
With content - always remember:
Creative Must Be An Experience
Focus on creating content with words, images and video that move people.
User action (or as I call it, "touched content" - content that is "liked," commented on, shared, etc...) determines how well you resonate. If people aren't "touching" your content - it's not an experience. And you will be put on snooze.
Every Second Matters
People move quickly on mobile - giving you on average 1.7 seconds to hold their attention with video on their phone; 2.5 seconds on desktop
Always come at content from the audiences' point of view. Is there value at the start?
Be The 30%
Facebook revealed we miss 70% of content meant for us each day. This means - of all the content posted by friends, family, Facebook Pages we've "liked," and ads targeted at us - we only see 30% of content every day.
Is that prize wheel/van wrap/remote tent post really going to make the 30% cut?
Social media is the metric of emotional response.
It's not always what we want to say; it's what others need to hear.
When done well, social will:
- Boost brand perception
- Excite fan expectations
- Create listening occasions
Which in return:
- Stimulates revenue
- Extends reach
- Builds on the brand's long-term health
Your station is literally in the hands of fans. At any given moment, you are inches away from their face as they watch you on their device.
Work to stay out of the snooze zone.
