Bursts Of Brilliance From #MSBC26

To be around veteran radio talent and the younger, up-and-comers can be insightful and intoxicating (not in that way – or well, maybe a little). That was the atmosphere at Don Anthony's Morning Show Boot Camp last week in Chicago. It was a moving event, highlighted by a packed room full of promise.
As Fred Jacobs and I took the stage to present Jacobs Media research about how our Techsurveys apply directly to their on-air efforts, we saw a sea of talent ready to tweet, take notes, and listen for those takeaways they could bring back to their stations as they hone their craft.
And that's the great thing about talent who attend radio gatherings. They know there is always another level of learning and mastery.
No matter how good we are, we can't coach ourselves. We all need people to keep us centered in life, personally and professionally.
And that's part of what we all took away last week from Boot Camp. With the help of some of the socially savvy attendees – here's a very brief recap:
KISW/Seattle Morning Host BJ Shea, gave the opening keynote and it was powerful:
And then Fred and I followed B.J.
When I got to the social media portion of our presentation, I reminded talent that social is not about the volume of fans or content, but rather about being a differentiator.
How we approach social either complements our already great brands or amplifies a self-involved one.
And then after our presentation - there were all kinds of other great radio minds ready to share with the room.
I pulled some of the meaty "Cliff's tweets" for you to read. These are moments that resonated with those who ascended on #MSBC26:
And perhaps the funniest tweet came from a word I've heard before and love sharing when I speak. I believe in giving ourselves permission to be "flawsome":
The greatest takeaway from all of these radio gatherings is that there is always more to learn. There is always another level. Whether it's the social space that I write about here on All Access each week or other important principles we need to be working on.
Through collaboration comes innovation.
So I hope to see this energy play out again at Worldwide Radio Summit 2015 in Los Angeles April 22-24, 2015. Take it from Brodie and his tweet below – getting together helps us feel closer as an industry.
